The North Allegheny School District was just selected as a 2012 Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation.
Currently, students at North Allegheny have the option to begin playing a musical instrument in elementary school. Beginning in third grade, students can join the orchestra. In fourth grade, students can join the band or become a member of the chorus. Additionally, students attend a weekly general music class throughout elementary school.
In elementary school, small group instrumental lessons are offered during the school day, and all musical ensembles meet once per week during the school day. The large group ensembles combine all students at the same level. Chorus, band, and orchestra perform two school concerts each year.
In middle school, students can continue their participation in one of four areas of music: band, orchestra, chorus or general music. Music classes meet every other day and during activity period when necessary.
In high school, North Allegheny offers a diverse venue of musical activities. Band, orchestra and chorus classes meet every day while extracurricular groups such as the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Indoor Percussion and the Golden Strolling Strings meet on a predefined schedule.
